I have a Q9550 processor and am trying to get a compatible

Motherboard
2 x 2GB RAM ddr3 1600
Video card
Power supply - 500Watts
ATX case

Unfortunately, whatever RAM I've looked at does not match with the motherboard specs from their user manual

Do not intend to spend lot of money on this, but want to see if anyone can suggest compatible components

I know it's not a high end system, but not much mullah :)

All compatiable memory works on pretty much all motherboard, you really only have to worry about that on really new and really old chipsets. If you get a DDR2 motherboard, all DDR2 Dims will fit just fine. If you get DDR3, same thing. Even memory that is "AMD optimized" will work fine on a intel board.

I can't say what is best for you based on your needs, because you aren't really very specific about what your budget is or what you plan to do. As a generic model, I would say a gigabyte GA EP45T, HD 4870 1GB, Cool Master RC690, and Corsair 550 watt are all good components worth their price.

Sounds kinda funny when someone makes a statement like that....Not like the higher end Q9xxx chips are whimpy now that faster chips are on the market :)

Mothergoose - thanks for clearing out the memory stick dilemma I was having.
a) I have questions reg the ATX case, as am not sure if the case will have USB port connections on the front
b) what kind of graphics card I should get
c) the only time I would tax the computer would be during some Adobe photoshoping and low end video editing - not that much of a gamer
d) would like to stay in the $500 budget

e) already have a western digital 250GB (IDE) & 300 GB (sata) - hoping to use one of the HD in the machine

If you look at the photos on Newegg of the case....You will see the USB and e-Sata firewire headphone and mic is on the top of the case towards the middle....Looks like a nice case :)

Stated from Adobe for the current version of Photoshop....Doesn't look like much is required to run it....Just don't go to cheap tho and make sure you get something with at least 512mb of ram.

1,024x768 display (1,280x800 recommended) with 16-bit video card
Some GPU-accelerated features require graphics support for Shader Model 3.0 and OpenGL 2.0

I think more or less if you get a card that has DX10 support it'll do the job for you maybe something like this one at newegg....Just an example as they do have cheaper ones http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...C5C-_-14150322

Shop wisely and you should be able to get a HD in your budget also.

The difference is between the core clock and memory clock

wondering which of the 3 cards is better

Not sure your link doesn't wanna work for me ???

You gotta pretty much buy everything except the cpu and are wanting to use DDR3 memory which kinda makes me wonder about your situation. Have you thought about just selling your Q9550 and going with a i5 chip instead? If you live close to a Microcenter you could score the i5 for pretty cheap....Or possibly trade the Q9550 for an i5....Just a thought

Kenmitch, well, I don't even have the processor yet, but have made up my mind on getting that one. here is what all I have gathered so far

video card; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125253
GIGABYTE GV-R465OC-1GI Radeon HD 4650 1GB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express 2.0 x16
RAM -
ddr3 1600 4gb = $80
Mobo -
ASRock P43DE3 LGA 775 Intel P43 ATX = $80

Am still looking for a case with power supply to keep the cost low

I personally would just sell off this q9550, it's retailing like 250, can sell it off for 200+, use the money buy a i5 750, you will get a lot more for your money that way. probably even end up with a faster system with equal or lower total cost.
