Hi, I just picked up the Xigmatek 1283 Dark Knight edition to replace the Coolermaster HyperTx2 I was using. I cleaned the cpu and heatsink with isopropyl very well, and used Arctic Silver 5 in the manner instructed on Arctic Silver website for quads, but filled in the little gaps between the heatpipes on the Xig. Fan on the Xig is on high, heatsink is bolted down as tight as possible. I tried reseating a couple times with no change.

My temps are a bit better than with the Hyper TX2, but not as good as other people are reporting. In a room with an ambient of about 23 c, cpu idles about 40c in realtemp (tjmax set to 100c) At load after ten minutes in Prime 95 small FTTs, temp is about 57c across cores. When the q9550 C1 is overclocked to 3.4 ghz, with 1.25v vcore, it idles mid to high 40s, and loads in Prime to low 60s (peaked at 63c for a sec).

For comparison, with the Hyper TX2 using the intel stock thermal paste, I was getting temps about 5-8 c higher at load.

Any advice? Should I reapply Arctic Silver for a third time? Reseat Again? Or am I just expecting too much?

My system:

Q9550 C1
Asus P5Q-E
2x2 gb corsair dominator 1066 ddr2
BFG Geforce GTX 260 Core 216 OC
Antec 900

Looks fine to me. Almost identical temps to what I got putting together my roommates computer, which was an almost identical setup (although I just used the regular 1283, not the Dark Knight edition).

I did this about a year ago, so my memory might be fuzzy, but I seem to remember it being ~40C at idle and ~60C at load.

Good to hear that my temps are close to what you got. From looking a bit closer at some of the reviews and posts I have read regarding temps, I think a lot are based on a real low ambient temperature (22c or below). I threw a portable A/c unit on in my room, got ambient down to 21c, and my temps never exceeded 58c with prime95 at 3.4 ghz.
