That's easy, the 9450 atm, but I hear that cpu is at the end of the line... not sure, somebody confirm this please.

It is.............

Q9450 vs E8400 comes down to:

Q > E
9 > 8
4 = 4
5 > 0
0 = 0

In the end the quad wins. Simple !

If you are going to spend $350 on a CPU, get Q9550 for $316 on August 10th.

what will the 9450's be then?

Discontinued. There might be some price dropping to move stock, but not a ton, and demand will quickly outpace supply and will likely drive them higher than the Q9550 if stock even lasts that long. But of course we'll see, I'm clearly just speculating.

I got mine a month ago knowing that they are EOL for $300 out the door at microcenter. As for the Demand outpacing the supply, seems to be on the move now. Hearing that everyone is wanting to get thier hands on one, I have noticed that prices have gone up a bit at the etailers. microcenter said that they will sell them for the $299 special until their gone. BTW, this was in the twin cities area and at that time there were 18 left..........

August 10, is the reported date the the Q9550 will drop to $317, and the Q9450 will be discontinued, it may be best to wait a week and a half and see what shakes out of that news

2.66ghz vs 2.83 ghz, .17ghz for $38 not a lot of dough for not a lot more HP, tough call, I would like to snatch a Q9450 for even less than the $279, which may occur now that it is discoed

I'm comparing my E8500 @ 4.25GHz to a Q9450 right now. So far i've only gotten the Q9450 up to 3.6GHz but i'd say it 100% depends on what you will be using the system for.

I can't hit 3.6 in my X3350(Q9450), and my E8400 is only at 4070, but I only got it stable at that an hour ago, then I try for more.

Bottom line is, the 8400 will OC past the 9450, but it does have 2 more cores....

There's a .5 higher multi on the Q9550, which should equate to about 400 mhz more than whatever overclock you could likely achieve on the 9450... certainly worth the money to me if I were in the market for a quad.

As for the debate, it depends on what you need it for. Quad for longevity and specific applications, dual for savings, less power, and extremely slightly faster gaming for this year and possibly the next.

E8400 saves less power ? meaning it uses More

Extremely slightly faster ? Is that a lot faster or barely faster at all ?
