Alright, so i just got a new Q9450, seems like a pretty good one, i had a VID of about 1.15, at least that's what CPU-Z told me.

Unfortunately, i think my thermal sensor are either whacked or i did something wrong when installing the heatsink.

Speedfan reports my temperatures at idle (after calibration) to be 39 39 37 36. This is while speedstep is in effect, while i have 2.66ghz, 2.8ghz, or 3.2ghz.

At stock speeds my load was ~51 C

Right now i'm priming at 3.2ghz, with 1.20 V in bios, (1.184 according to CPU-Z) and i have an average of 61 C. Is this ok? Do you think i've done something wrong when installing the heatsink?

I have a Xigmatek S1283 (with the bracket) and a P5Q-E motherboard (latest bios). Oh, and i also have an Antec 1200 case with all the fans on full blast, so i would think that would help a bit...

Edit: Temps are now 59 C average under 100% load at 3.2ghz

the temps sound pretty good to me, what are your room temperatures? it is summer afterall so it might be running a tad hotter than normal.

those are normal, my Q9450 runs over 60C under load 1.16V @ 2.75GHz right now
of course it's 30c ambient where i live right now (san diego)
i could easily run this cpu at 3.33GHz but the heat makes it unstable with air cooling

use Reatemp as it is more accurate for the 45nm chips. Mine runs around the 54c mark across all cores @ 3.4 with bios setting of 1.26875v, drops to 1.216 - 1.200 under full load.

Are you using RealTemp to measure? What did you set your TJmax as? 105c or 95c?

Using RealTemp, my 3.2Ghz Q9450 at 1.2v is about 42c, and load about 56c. I am not using the Asus vDroop offset, so my vDroop is about 0.04v from BIOS vCore under load.

95c TJ Max seems low. I would feel safer in the middle at 100c. The distance to TJ Max is the same no matter what the TJ Max is set to, so I guess above 30-35 distance to TJ Max would be better way to measure since it doesn't change.

95c seems to be the consensus tjmax, though as mentioned the only number that really matters is delta to tjmax, anyway. my delta to tjmax is 32, 36, 39, 39 right now, using tuniq with cpu at 3.6. And yes, I know that I should probably lap it, but no, I'm not going to bother since the temps are so damn low.
