Q9450 Temperature, what is normal and what is alarming, and what to measure with?

I have a brand new Q9450, currently running at default factory, VID 1.20v, 2.66Ghz, with DDR2 running at 400mhz. So far at idle, Core0/2 show temp of 46c, and Core1/3 show temp of 43c. Is that normal? This was much higher than what my E4500 was showing. With the same setup (but different motherboard) I'm getting E4500 idle at 25c or so.

Is there still the issue of Penryn being reported 15c too high. Or is this a case that my E4500 was reporting 15c too low? The temps are reported through both Speedfan and CoreTemp.

Grab a copy of RealTemp for Penryn processors. Please provide load temperatures, as idle is not a meaningful figure. Generally speaking, load temps become unsafe past 70C.

Aye, but unless you bought all those fancy components to have a pretty paperweight, you still need to put the system under stress :) Prime95 or OCCT will crank that right up and show you a more meaningful scenario.
