I recently built a new rig, due to low RAM pricing primarily, but also due to Yorkfields ownage that I had to get in on.

Intel Core2Quad Q9450
Gigabyte EX38-DS4
AC Freezer 7 Pro
8GB Mushkin XP2-6400 996580
Evga 8800GT (wish it was BFG but yeah, my GT200 will be)
Antec 900
Corsair HX520
Liteon burner
Logitech G3 and Logitech Access 600 keyboard
I have the side panel fan on, and the extra cage fan in the case.
Running Vista 64.

Right now I'm running 375x8 for 3ghz on stock vcore. Timing is at 4-4-4-12. As I said in another thread I just don't want to run extra voltage through my precious..

If I run full DDR2-800 I could get possibly 3.2ghz on stock vcore but I assumed 3ghz would be a given on stock voltage and all I hypothesized for when I was ordering up parts.

All in all, I feel I got a great deal with the total parts I ordered coming to $800 total. I had some of my stuff already from my previous rig (PSU, case, GPU). I highly doubted I'd get so much for so little when Bloomfield arrived. The CPU, DDR3 and chipset will drive me out of the $800 zone... easily..
and I could forgo a GT200 with this rig. A 8800GT would've been weak to pair with a Bloomfield so overall I figured now was the time while DDR2 was low. My HX520 and Antec 900 are still rather hot items so everything kinda lined up properly. I've had the 900 since launch, paid $175 a long time ago when everyone was hating on it, but it turned out to be quite the popular case.. all my friends have it.

This is my first quadcore, and I LOVE it. Vista64 has been great for me as well, no complaints. Though I have did do this as a matter of precaution, and use AVG Free 8.x which I've had zero problems with Source games and Steam. Had a little trouble when I was running NOD32 but switching up cleared it up.
Not all games use multithreading but I can say that multitasking (which I do often while gaming) is infinitely better with 8GB using Super Prefetch and quadcore! The 12MB of unified cache also definitely helps single threaded apps since a single app can access all of that unlike older quad designs.

My CPU idles at around 21C. So far I've left on SpeedStep and had no issues. This thing just rapes at 3ghz..

Be happy to answer any questions if you're building or thinking about building a similar rig.
