Q9450 High Temps Please Help

Hey everyone. Today I got my Q9450 and i put it in my DS3L (Rev 2.0) mobo to test it out and my temps seem abnormally high when idle'd. My buddy gets better temps with his Q6600 with a below average asus HS/F. This is all out of the case and on a test bed setup.

Real Temp 2.41 (idle)
core0: 44/43
core1: 40/39
core2: 43
core3: 40/39


Real Temp 2.41(Load)
Core0: 54/53
Core1: 50/49
Core2: 53/52
Core3: 51/50


Im running this with a Noctua NH-U12P and 1 120mm fan. All stock with no overclocking. Im using AS5 and i spread it across the heat spreader per their instructions. Is it me or is that high for stock and no OC? Does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm sure the instruction for a quad core CPU is -not- to spread it around. Take a look Here.

Try reseating your HSF using the above method of applying your AS5.

Those are the exact instructions i followed and i didnt spread it around.. Thanks for replying though

Im using REal temp and i believe tjmax was 95. My bios reads cpu temp at 24 at idle.
 
I'm getting higher temps than you with my 9450. I'm only using an AC Freezer 7 Pro for cooling. I've also taken the heatsink out and reseated with the same results. I'm never really sure how good it seated with push pins unless I take the MB out(I didn't).

My idle temps are in the 44-46 range(Real Temp), overclocked to just 2.8 GHz. I was running an E8400 on this same setup(overclocked to 3.7 GHz) with idle temps at 32-34. I'm glad I've already ordered a Thermalright 120 Xtreme because the 9450 definitely runs hot.

well dual core are always going to be cooler so thats normal. I just mounted a lapped tuniq tower to see the difference between the two.
 
Yeah its tight. ATM the highest one of the cores get is 60 after 15mins of prime95 with my Noctua and 1 fan. This is at stock speeds. Im going to mount my second 120 noctua fan to see if it helps. Thanks for responding mate.
 
Hey Shadow! Thanks for your response. Ive actually been reading about the sensors being inaccurate on these 9450's. Im debating whether to go to fry's and exchange it and try my luck. Im going to try Noctua's thermal paste just for kicks to see what it does to my temps.

I think your temp's look OK.

The temp's for the individual cores vs. the chip temp are significantly different.

E8400 @ 4.05Ghz (1.4250v)
Chip: 41
Core0: 57
Core1: 57

I am using a Noctua NH-U12P as well.
 
You guys REALLY need to setup the Noctua to push pull, it's basically designed to use it, the difference is quite big tbh. It's just an "ok" hsf without the 2 fan setup.
