Q8200 Quad-core

After getting my quad-core processor, i installed it right away however, there is a problem. when i'm using ANY application, my computer lags a little bit at a time, it's highly noticeable. the lag spikes can range from a tenth of a second to even 2 seconds, i'm confused because i've read so much about quad cores being extremely efficient and reliable. ideas anyone?

That's not normal. Download and run "DPC Latency Checker". Then get back to us.

(My NV6150 and AMD S939 3800+ has a problem like that, the mouse freezes up for a split second every few seconds, watching video is choppy, etc. I attribute it to something strange about the motherboard. I'm going to replace it eventually.)

Need more details, please. RAM, OS, description of applications, etc.

Harddrive. Do you have an SSD? Which brand. OCZ/Patriot? Anything with a Jmicron controller? That could explain the problem.

I got rid of a slight video lag by uninstalling norton anti virus and running vista without virus protection. Haven't had any trojans so far.
