I just installed my new q6600 G0 stepping and core temp is showing 36 on core 0 and 1 and 32 on cores 2 and 3. does this seem right for my setup?

black ice extreme 240 4 fans push pull
mc-tdx DD block

I think I made a boo boo. I have the in tube on my block on the wrong side I think. the tube directly over the cpu is pulling the water out and not pushing it in. will this effect temps?

Im used to talking to myself so I'll give an update.

I reinstalled the block I got cores 0 & 3 down to 31c and cores 1 & 2 are 26c & 25c respectivly. I have no clue if this is normal for the core to be off temps like this.

anyone???

It's ok to talk to one's self,
it is also ok to reply,
my problem is the arguments,,,,,

Did you have this quad on air before and were the temps also uneven? I'm thinking the IHS is not flat.

You try a couple remounts? Not sure how well the TDX handles the quads.

Well, those temps aren't bad, do they balance out at load? Run Prime small ffts for a few minutes and see what it says. Better yet download and run Real Temp. read the novella of a thread uncle has going and maybe you can explain it all to me. just kidding, lots of good info in there.

I remounted about 10 times. the mc in mc-tdx stands for multi-core.

I did notice that the TIM would not be even on the block . Think I should return it for an exchange?

can you put the processor @ load with a load program like OCCT and then give us the loaded core temps?

Load temps may even out, Intel sensors are more accurate ate higher temps. Before you return anything you need to see if and where the uneven surface is, is it the block or the chip? use a straight edge. It is also possible the sensors are borked, w/ my quad #2 cpu is the oddball.

ok I ran prime small FFts for about an hour or so. on cores 0 & 3 high was 48c on 1 & 2 it was 45c. seemed to be 2-3 degrees cooler on cores 1 & 2. ambiant is 22-23c using coretemp 96.1 for temps

I did have the tubes on backwards but fixed it. also turned the block around which got the temps down to what they are now.

those are great temps.

your not breaking 50c.

Start overclocking now and see how high she will go.

I havnt been keeping up on the q6600 oc. I would like to just get 400 on the fsb for now. any sugestions on multi and volts to start out on? I figured 400x8 would b probably good but not sure what kinda volts it will need. think it will do 400x9?

Agreed, your temps at load are fine. The sweet spot for my quad is 3.2, temps, voltage, speedstep is on and all the other crap but everybody's happy. That's 9x 360, memory @1:1. 3.4 the volts go up a little for stability, 3.6 fails prime generally within the hour, and I have booted and run CPUz at 3.8 but prime fails instantly. You can play with multipliers but for me 3.2 works best for quiet and fast.

Mine is a MATX board and I know his may hinder the OC but many others have had similar results on better boards with our chip, good luck and keep us posted!

3.4 volts? I know im water cooling but wow lol I'm guessing you mean 1.34?

I would like to run my memory at 800 with 1:1 that why I asked if 400x8 would be good. I was doing that on my e6600 and it needed 1.375v

Haha, not volts! my voltage is less than 1.4. I was referring to speed, 3.8 = 420 x 9;) That was not stable btw.

@SickBeast, It is a hobby unto itself. There really is no great difference anymore other than in the summer I don't need to back down my
OC or crank my fans.PC I build for friends or family are always aircooled, mine? always water,,,,,,,,,

Yep, normal. No bluescreens, no fanfare, just a simple "I ain't doin it" and your done.

What motherboard are you using? do you have active cooling on the N + SB?,, yes? NB up a little, SB too, watch you MB temps, loosen the memory timings to get the highest CPU oc then tighten the memory and try to back down volts. Read through Graysky's guide again, I don't remember half of it.

its a gigabyte 965p-s3 (rev1 bios 14a) I do have a fan on my NB. (small sythe) ya I have read through that many times. I ran my e6600 with just a volt increase on the vcore (400x8 1.375v) so I wasnt sure if the quads needed a bit more or NB increase. I had the vcore up to 1.4 and it still wasnt stable.

For 3.4 stable I need just over 1.4 vcore, 1.4125 or 1.425 in the bios, 3.2 I can drop that to 1.38. Your board and bios are much different than mine so my numbers won't help much. For the Q6600 I would say 3.2 is an average OC, 3.4 is good and above that people are "picking the cherries"
