Q6600 system has problems waking from sleep

A friend of mine has an old Q6600 system he asked me to tweak up for him to get some extra performance. A few weeks ago I overclocked it for him up to a very conservative 3Ghz and it can pass 48 hours of IBT or Prime, but he has reported to me that sometimes it doesn't properly wake from sleep. My last Core2 system had no such problems, but I know when overclocking Ivy you need to disable "package C states" on most boards or you'll have issues. Is there a similar setting for Core2 that I'll need to change?

I think its C1E. Just restore defaults and then set your FSB to 333 to get your 3GHz. You dont need to mess with any of the power options so its best just to leave them at factory default, which should already be set correctly.

Except disable C1E? Gotcha.

If it's a Gigabyte board, you might be out of luck. They have problems with Sleep, when overclocking.

Don't blanket stuff Larry, lol. My old Gigabyte did fine with sleep on my Q6600. It ran around 3.2 (going higher got too hot (for me, not it)) the entire time I had it.

I just remember reading here on these forums issues with sleep mode not working on Gigabyte P35 and P45 boards (X38/48 too?), when overclocking the FSB above around 330.

Yeah, I was probably just lucky. Mine was a P45. With overclocking, nothing is guaranteed though.

Some google-fu reveals that disabling S3 might resolve this. I'll give it a try and see if I get any phone calls over the next few days.

Disabling s3 works for my overclocks on and old Gigabyte C2D e8500 rig I have, Runs rock solid @ 4.2GHZ, no more sleep issues either.
