q6600 system for 700$?

by using ibuypower.com and some parts from rig in sig i can make this system for 700$ and still have my current system with a lesser PSU.

new setup
Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q6600
Asus P5N32-E SLI nForce 680i
4GB Mushkin Extreme DDR2-800
2x 8600GTS SLI (not a heavy gamer, and have one lying around already)
Antec TP3 650W
And various HD's, DVD-RW's ect.
(this will be including a case, 36.7GB Raptor drive, and windows vista home premium 64bit)

rig in sig will be dropping the 650 antec PSU for a 420 Thermaltake

do you think at this time (before the new launch from both camps) its worth dropping 700$ on this system as a whole?

I'm not sure it's wise to lower the PSU of the rig in your sig to 420. It seems you're overclocking and there's more power demands for a system that's oc'd, unless the Thermaltake has really good voltage rails and current supplies. The other thing is you've got 4 hd's and 8 fans so I wouldn't go down to a 420watt supply.

Depending on how many HD´s he pulls out, and even then, it should actually run just fine on most 420w PSU´s, thermaltake is rather shitty though ...

And, sell those 8600gts´s, and buy a single 8800gt. Consumes less power, and will still be faster ...

A single 8800GT is better than 8600GTS SLI in every measurable way.

I don't think a 420 watt PSU can handle an OC'ed Q6600 and any 3d card.

Its a 650w TP3.

The 420w is going in the Toledo rig.

It sounds fairly inexpensive for a Quad Core 4GB system, I would go for it,

Either a single 8600GTS or an 8800GT if you feel like spending. The 3870 should sit between them and has similar performance to the 8800GT if you can wait a couple weeks.

Also, that hard drive sucks, its density is so low that it's not even faster than some older drives out there. A Seagate 7200.11 will give you more space and speed at the same price.

uhhhh.... no one failed to mention that board SUCKS hardcore. :X

If your not a heavy gamer then forget SLI, and keep your 8600GT.

Get a quality P35 board instead, like Gigabyte P35-DS3P, or DQ6 if you can still find those.

Or Abit IP35-Pro, Asus P5K-E or DLX or Maximus Primus DDR2 version. Or an ASUS X38 chipset.


You really dont want the problems sli + quadcores will bring. And Nvidia chipsets really cant put out endurance wise like an intel chipset can.
