q6600 on Debian sid

So I just installed my new(used) Q6600 into my SuperMicro PDSME+ running Debian sid and a nice new 2.6.24 kernel with cpufreqd and all that happy power saving stuff.

The CPU reports right in /proc/cpuinfo (model name : Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz) however here's the kicker: cpu MHz : 900.000

That's in performance mode, in on-demand it switches to 600Mhz when nothing's happening.

Now funny enough 6x and 9x are the multipliers for the Q6600 in power save and full power modes. Is my kernel just reporting stupid numbers? The only other instance of this happening I could find via google is all in German. I don't read german, so I'm out of luck there.

Any idea what's going on?

I would disable cpufreqd and make sure no cpufreq kernel modules are loading on bootup and see what it reports on startup without any of that loaded.
