I just got a Q6600 and a P5K-E put together and noticed that the multiplier keeps changing from 6X at 1600mhz to 9X at 2400mhz.It's mostly at 1600mhz. How do I make it stay at it's stock speed?

The 6x multiplier is due to C1E/SpeedStep which downclocks the CPU to save power when not under load. Turn off C1E and SpeedStep in your motherboard's BIOS to disable this.

its ok mate its a good thing, when your cpu is idle its downclocks itself and uses less power, soon as you start an app or game bam its back to full speed, its intels version of AMD's Cool N Quiet.

i leave mine on.

its SpeedStep, Intel's auto downclockng thing. Its pretty neat as it saves power and all that junk.
