Q6600, is it enough for gaming?

Hi all,

Recently been thinking a lot to get another CPU solely for gaming purposes. I am wondering if Q6600 (OCed @ 3.5GHz) is enough or is the Q9xxx series (or even the E8xxx) better for gaming?

I am thinking of maintaining air cooling though as I am not familiar with water cooling so hopefully would find the best chip suitable for these purposes.

I can't imagine a Q6600 would not be enough for gaming.... any game at all infact. Dont' get too hung up on processor speed for gaming, you just need plenty of video card. I run a Phenom 9850 @ 2.8GHz, this is probably slightly faster then a Q6600 @ stock and there isn't a game that I can't play.

No, its only good for light internet work. Make sure to stay at 800x600 or less

Yes the Q6600 is a great chip and I would recommend it for just about anything you throw at it. You will not be disappointed.

comparing Q6600 @ 3.3 with X1950XT & E6600 @ 3.2 with X1900XTX:

if you only have one game running such as WoW---> no difference.

--folding at home, dual-logged on 2 WoW accounts, multiple internet browsers up, antispyware programs running----> Quad is much much smoother

if all you run is wow then anything more than a 7600gs and an athlon 64 3000+ is overkill.

Its the same as running a 2.4ghz Dual-core for 99% of games out today. Thats why I go high-clocked dual ;) You could have a 2.4ghz octo-core right now, and it would run the same as a 2.4ghz dual. More cores is pretty much useless to the average user for now.

I myself have a 32 core 5 GHz QX32000, 2 gb 52000GTX Nvidia, and 32 gigs of ram from the year 2018 (ordered it from futureshop.com). Hopefully that's enough for Unreal Tournament 99????!

The E8400 will be faster than the Q6600 in the majority of games out there for cheaper than the 6600. But the Q6600 will be a little more future proof. :)

Dude, the website exists in the future. You need to order a special router from futureshop to be able to access their website.

I'm sure there's a paradox in there somewhere....

In that case, it's futureshop.ca, not futureshop.com.;)
