Q6600 G0 Running Very Hot Stock

As my thread title states, my Q6600 G0 runs pretty hot (in my opinion and after reading some other posts).

Here is my build:

Antec P182 Case
Asus P5K-E Mobo
Q6600 G0 (with stock fan and AS5 applied)
G.Skill DDR2 800 4GB
Rosewill 600W PSU
EVGA 8800GT
150GB WD Raptor

Temperatures being shown:

BIOS temperature: initial bootup 50 degrees. reboot (after running PC running for a while) 60 degrees.

SpeedFan: Idle: 55 degrees Full Load (running stress test BurnIn test): 70+ degrees (was climbing up to 75 degrees but I stopped the test at that point).

It is important to note that I'm not overclocking. These are temperatures that are recorded with the side case on. I'm not at my computer right now but I will also post the temperatures that Intel TAT is recording.

Anyone know why I am getting such high temperatures? I know the Quad Cores run hot but sheesh! I've seen the B6 steppings run cooler on stock.

Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

Stock HSF? My guess is that the HSF isn't properly seated/installed. The push-pin and twist design on the stock HSF are really annoying. Even after-market coolers can have problems if you don't install them with the proper orientation.

Or you live in the desert with no A/C. ;)

I failed to previously mentioned that I upgraded my BIOS as well. My room is a bit warm as its on the 2nd floor. So there's no chance there is something wrong with the processor itself?

Your room temps are a prime source of heat. Your cpu is probably fine.

I wasn't sure of this but what is the highest temperature this processor will run on? I would like to know what an unsafe temperature would. I wasn't able to find this on Intel's site though some claim it is there. Does anyone have a link to it or know the temperatures?

Well I just ran the Stress Test under Prime95 and my temperature was holding at 83 degrees Celcius!!! As soon as I saw you post about 80 degrees I stopped the test. I'm using Intel TAT to monitor the temperature. Is that the most accurate tool available?

TAT only tells you what the max heat on the chip can be. It loads the chip to like 110% of the max.

TAT wont tell you anything about stability. Prime95 is a better stress tester, because you see stability and HEAT required for the stability.

Im thinkn you improperly seatted your heat sink. Did you hear all 4 clicks on the bracket? Each bracket should "click" into place.

Also you didnt happen to wipe that gray stuff under the HSF did you? Im guessing also you might be missing tim.

Try poping the side pannel off and see if that adjusts your temps any. You might not be getting enough flow into your case.

What is a precise tool for checking the temp of the CPU? I did wipe the HSF stuff off and applied Arctic Silver 5 to both that and the CPU. I did hear clicks but I'm going to take it off again because I found out that I applied the AS5 incorrectly to the CPU since it's a Quad Core. So is my CPU running dangerously hot?

Core Temp is a good tool. G0 stepping should throttle at 80C, so keeping it bellow 75C is a good idea.
