Hi All,
I am planning to upgrade my computer CPU. I have E6600 and have two options for upgrade i.e. E6750 and Q6600. My motherboard is ABIT IP35 Pro.

I generally use computer for games and little bit of office work.

Please suggest.

Thanks.

Welcome to anandtech. Why not overclock your E6600? It will overclock to a much higher speed than the E6750's stock speed, for much less money (since you already own it).

Thanks. But what about the FSB speed difference. E6750 is at 1333. Does it really make a difference in overall speed?

The difference is minute. Certainly not worth buying another processor.

I suggest changing nothing. OC that E6600.

The quad wouldn't hurt i suppose, but i suspect the gain in games will be relatively small, though there are games coming that should be a bit better with quads.

You already have a fast CPU.

Just overclock that or use it for now until the next crop of processors come out.

Raise your FSB to 333 to get a nice 3ghz (e6850 w/o the 4mb cache).

E6600 is 4 MB L2.

And most E6600s will do over 3 GHz w/ good cooling too :D

Thanks. Then I will stay with my E6600 for now and overclock it to 3GHz.

My cooler is Zalman CNPS9700LED. Will this be enough for cooling E6600 at 3GHz or I will have to invest in some other cooler? And I hope ABIT IP35 Pro can give me stable oveclocks. Because P5N32-E SLI (My previous board) was very fussy, Always giving me booting problems. I even upgraded the BIOS.

Or if your really brave you could padmod your 6600 and get a much higher overclock!!
Its not all that hard and it would be like upgrading from a E6600 to a E6650.

pin-modding/pad modding.

you need to connect the BSEL "pins" using a conductive substance to default to the 3.0GHz E6850 (333*9). Theoretically it will get you a higher overclock b/c it will relax the chipset timings.

But without the pin-mod, i'd still expect you to get to 3.3GHz (366.67*9).

unless you really have a desire to set money on fire, i would just stick with what you have.

By overclocking you also bump up the FSB, unless you overclock by raising the multiplier, which isn't possible since the E6600 doesn't have unlocked multis.

I just ordered my new intel platform , P5K-E + C2D 6750
I wonder how much OC I can expect with C2D 6750 ??
with memory Crucial 1066MHz
I guess 8x450MHz should be an average standard ? if I'm wrong
please feel free to correct me
by the way , CPU will be cooled by WC

*****Update*******

Now Everything is Clear

CPU is perfectly stable working 8x453MHz it means 3624MHz
Ram Crucial BallistiX PC6400 CL-4-4-4-12 543MHz it means 1086
All tested over 2 hours in Orthos .
I'm very glad for bought my first Intel after six years using of AMD .
only one problem is voltage of CPU , it need 1.525 Vcore for stable working .
Max temperatures on stress is 62'C
