I just put together a new system, a q6600 G0 and a gigabyte p35-ds4 rev 2.0

I am having lots of weird issues. First, it was underclocked. At desktop, it was running at 1.6gHz which I believe was speedstep. The mobo manual said to turn speedstep off but there was no option for it. And even then, under load it was only running at 2.13 gHz. (It had a multi of 8 under load and 6 at idle. I believe it's supposed to run at multi of 9, right?)

So I updated the bios, to f9 using @bios. This produced the speedstep option in the bios, but turning it on or off has no affect. It still runs at 1.6ghz idle. I also found an option to bump the multi to 9. Then I was able to run it at load at 2.4ghz.

I then installed my remaining peripherals (2 hard drives) and now I only have 3 cores showing. (Vista 64, Ubuntu, Speedfan all show 3 cores) And now the system is acting a bit weird, I have had a bunch of different crashes with my games tonight. (Only had the 3 cores for tonight.)

Can someone tell me what's going wrong? What do I need to do? (Is my hardware faulty?)

frell - let me know if i forgot anything :)

Power Down, and Drain power, shut off switch on back of P/S and hit power button.... Clear CMOS.......

You need to start over, with just one stick of RAM installed, Format & install your operating system.

get rid of any software overclocking crapola. Only put the needed drivers in don't add any B/S utilities... period

after you get the operating system installed .. power down, and add the other stick of memory.... be sure to set memory voltage correctly after installing second stick.
