Q6600, 6700, 9300 or 9450? Which is best for me?

Hello, newbie here. Need a new comp. I don't play much intense games. I do do alot of video editing and normal everyday comp use. So multitasking is important.

Which CPU's are best for my needs considering cost.

Thanks in advance.

There are pros and cons to all of those chips...but if you have the $$ in your budget, Q9450.

Remember that the Q9450 is discontinued and I'll bet they will be selling fast. Prices are dropping also. So, if you want 1, make sure you make up your mind before they're gone. I bought mine from Micro center (local) and at the time they had 17 left. They said when they're gone, they're gone....... That was 2 weeks ago.

Thanks guys for the help. It helped make up my mind on a pre-built comp from HP. Specs:

Q9450
3gig RAM (800mhz) DDR2
512Mb 9500GS
320 gig HD

for $700 out the door.

But it's getting replaced by essentially the Q9550...the new quad at the Q9450 price point will have an 8.5 multi, instead of 8x.

Might be wirth waiting a bit if possible, to get the higher multi.

I think q9300 is discontinued and q9450 is to be placed at $266 price point... I remember reading something to this effect, but cant remember that......

As to the original question.... No point in getting Q6600 or Q6700 now although both are excellent... 4 MB of extra cache on Q9xxx would be very helpful for ur video encoding stuff... so i guess its good for you if u wait to get the q9550 or q9450...

The Q6600 has been retained as low end quad solution, but Q9450 has been discontinued. It'll still stay in the channel until they're all sold out, then Q9550 will come to replace it at slightly higher price point. If you cannot wait 3 more month when Q9550 price comes down, then you should get the Q9450 before the supply dwindles. You're only losing .5 multiplier with Q9450, and it's not a big deal if you're going to overclock it anyway.

Gundam is correct.....

But ill believe the 9550 being $329 @ the Egg when I see it. Although it is officially taking the wholesale Q9450 price-point, Intel may hold back supply causing a price premuim..(See E8400, E8500, Q9450 @ launch)

yep, I definitely see Intel holding back Q9550 supply until Q9450 is flushed from the major distributors. Otherwise they risk depressing quad core pricing, which would push Q6600 even lower, and then they may suffer margin erosion on quad cores. They will do whatever they can to make Quad core a premium product. If you really think about Intels' cost, waffer production cost is only a component of total cost, and having additional 2 cores should not drastically increase the cost.
