q3a running like a dog??

Any ideas.. 1.33 tbird, geforce mx 32mb (unsure if 200 or 400 or if the older one, this is a friends comp).

he can't seem to break sub 30 fps no matter what settings. Other games run d3d/ogl perfectly, but in q3a, noda.

they *did* manage to get it up to par.. but once the computer rebooted, couldn't get back to it.

Any thoughts? under win2k, q3a has been installed, tried w/ original, 1.17, 1.27g, 1.27h.. a complete reinstall of win2k as well.. det 6.xx drivers were tried, official ones from nvidia...
 
oh yeah, done that. It's the Asus a7m266 i believe (amd 761 north/via south) The weird thing was it worked.. when he started his comp again.. no go.
