Q3A performence issue

I have sort of a problem with q3. I posted this on the q3w forums and am doing the same here in hopes that someone can help.

Here's my problem. I haven't played Q3A online in a long time. Just to give you an idea just how long, I just had to download 4 patches today because my last version was 1.17. Anyhow, I play at 1024x768 in 32bit color, everything on, and settings pretty high and I used to get roughly 60fps on average. Then a few days ago I fired up q3 again without touching any settings and suddenly I'm getting 20 to 30fps. I haven't touvhed a thing and it is quite a bit lower, and it is always dropping into the single digits when an enemy becomes a cloud of goo right in front of me. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? Even after downloading and installing patches up to 1.27h, i'm still getting this crappy performence. The only hardware changes to my system since I played q3 and got a good fps was for the better...I replaced my p3 550@733 with a p3 700@933 and a soyo 7vca (orginally an abit bf6).
The rest of my box is as follows:
320MB pc133
GF2 mx (175/200)
SBL x-gamer
etc.

The only new software running is a toolbar for my dsl. I thought maybe it was that but it never affects my fps in TFC/CS, which is still in the 70's. I'm still using the det3 v6.18 reference drivers and haven't messed with them in any way. I'll probobly try new drivers but that can't be the problem since it's an unchanged variable at the moment. Any help is greatly appretiated. Thanks in advance.

belive its because anything over 1.17 will automaticaly disable texture compression

change this in your config

seta r_ext_compressed_textures "1"

Hey, thanks for responding.
The problem is, this started even before i updated to the latest patch. So this overall slow down was in effect in v1.17 when I recently started playing again. Before, on the same install and everything though and up to v1.17 I never had this problem.

The value you suggested I change was indeed back to 0 so I changed it, but it didn't increase performence at all. :(

You upgraded to a mobo with a different chipset.
Strange things happen if you dont reformat HD.
At least install latest VIA 4in1 drivers and make sure you
install AGP driver in 'turbo' mode.

Vrangel, thanks, I think that may be what it is now that I think about it. I guess I'll know by the weekend after I format and do a fresh install of everything. Thanks very much.
