All,

When playing any game based on the Q3A engine, I get incredible headaches and feel nauseous. I have head bob etc. turned off, and have tried everything. I can handle other FPS games (anything based on the UT or Lithtech engines) Can anyone give a suggestion? With the current crop of top notch shooters out there, I would really really like to be able to play them. Thanks in advance.

You could try taking some dramamine before playing and see if that helps. Motion sickness is a b!tch.

I've only had that happen once after an unusually long session of UT, I agree it sucks.

Yeah that does hurt!

Have you tried perhaps dropping the resolution and upping the Monitor refresh rate. 60Hz gives me headache, In fact I try to have a minimum of 85Hz at all times.

Good luck on finding a cure. ;)

Thanks for all the help folks.

Regarding refresh rates. I have my desktop set to 80Hz, how do I change the in-game rate? Or does Q3a just default to match the desktop?

Thanks Again,
AA

How powerful is your system? My cousin used to get headaches when he was getting low framerates all the time. When he got a Radeon to speed things up he stopped getting headaches when he played.

depends on your OS and video card as far as the refresh rates go....could be an Nvidia -XP refresh rate issue...if so , you need that fix program....just do a search on nvidia and refresh rates, you'll find it

There are a number of things to try:
-increasing/decreasing the room's temperature.
-increasing/decreasing the room's lighting levels.
-increasing/decreasing the game/monitor brightness.
-sit closer/further from the monitor.
-make sure your refresh rate in the game is at least 75 Hz (preferably higher) and try to get your framerate as high as possible.

You can check your refresh rates using the OSD on your monitor. If you have Windows 2000/XP then it's very likely it'll be at 60 Hz or some other unoptimal setting so you should use any of the many free refresh rate fix utilities to fix the issue.

All,

Thanks again. I have a GF3 and am running XP. So that could definiately be the culprit. I'll try that tonight. Thanks again!

You can also try those wristbands they sell on boats to avoid nausea...don't know if they really work though!

All that eye candy will end up in your barf bag if the framerate suffers. Movement in the game should be perfectly smooth (no jerkiness). For a test, try lowering all your settings (try 1024x768 with all details on low) and see if your headaches/nausiness goes away ;)

You must be getting headaches from a refresh rate under 75 Hz... it's probaly 60 Hz on your system in games, and that's not good.

Hit the 'menu' key on your monitor when in a game and check what your refresh rate is....
