Q3 + Win2K ICS + proxy = no go

I can't seem to setup Q3 properly for a proxy.

seta net_socksPort "80"
seta net_socksServer "xx.xxx.xxx.xxx"
seta net_socksEnabled "1"

Those are the settings I use, however I can't seem to connect to ANY quake3 server unless I disable net_sockets which really defeats the purpose for using the proxy which is to get a lower ping.

My connection is really messed up right now I'm pinging 180+ to most servers and my friend who has the exact same setup (w/o the ICS) pings 50 to the same servers.

Any idea how I can fix this problem?
 
You mean you are using win2k ics to make a proxy or are running a hardware or software proxy plus ICS?
 
Our main box is serving as a router that is running win2k and takes care of the ICS. I am on a secondary box routed via the win2k ics box, I am tyring to setup a proxy on my computer that is routed via a different carrier then our primary internet provider, and it doesnt seem to work. ie I can not connect to any q3a servers

Is it not working because Im routed via a win2k box running ICS?
 
Have you turned off anything pointing to the win2k ics box so it's not getting hung up between the 2?

You think I might have blocked off the proxy port?

Hmm anyone remember port 80 is by default?
 
I checked and nothing appears to be blocked off 🙁

Go figure. Any suggestions? I'm thinking of resorting to call Activision tech support.
 
i thought the beuty of windows ics is that you config all sys's behind the firewall proxy as if they where right there on the front line? am i wrong? i mean that all the programs that access web content dont see the proxy system, its as if they were right on the cable modem. any body know of any programs like that??
 
I believe that is the way it works.

There is a side effect to that. Over irc I can't DCC files but I can recieve them. I can't setup an FTP but I can download from one etc. I'm wondering if I can do something about this 🙁
 
Sounds like probably just configuration of the win2k ics, I'm not big on it but I would imagine it would have options to open certain ports you would need for those actions.
 
Hrmm no good point. The proxy port is 80. I'll fool around with the local port settings and see what that does.
 
Ahhhhhh thats done the trick 😀 Changed the port to 1080 🙂

At least I hope so, they're doing something to the routers right now 😉
