Intel down 0.1% to 76.2%
Others (Via, Transmeta) down 0.3% to 0.5%
AMD up 0.4% to 23.3%

The big number for AMD (and the reason their numbers were better than expected) was a 26% increase in mobile share from the previous quarter.

Had the numbers been lower for AMD and Intel's were up, I'm sure you wouldn't have reported it. :)

AMD broke through and maintained both IC Insights and ISuppi's top 10 global semiconductor makers position for the first in its history. Congrats to them.

AMD shakes up list of top 10 semiconductor makers

IC Insights Inc., a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based research firm, this week released its ranking of the top semiconductor suppliers for the third quarter. While Intel continued to dominate the list, rival AMD surprised analysts by making its first appearance at No. 10, despite its ongoing price war with Intel Corp.

"It's the first time AMD has even been in the top 10 ranking," said IC Insights Vice President Trevor Yancey. He noted that AMD reached No. 13 with $5.6 billion in chip sales last year, its previous best ranking on the list.

Yancey called AMD's move onto the list a "big shakeup."

:) You got it in one, jones...!
Seriously, I don't follow INTC financials very close, mainly because I've closed my position in them. I count on posters like zsdersw and Phynaz to post that stuff, and I actually appreciate their efforts in that regard.

Good info...I missed that one bradley. Thanks!

Now now folks, there is room for everyone. I always like to hear information from all sides, no matter who it comes from.

If you hold a position AMD, you have to follow INTC IMO.

I follow INTC tech, but there's no need to closely follow the financials. It's not a zero sum game (as this last quarter's marketshare numbers demonstrate).

Yep, I totally agree. It's funny if you look at the Yahoo Finance Boards for either company, they tend to believe otherwise (heh definition of FUD is those boards. Go there for a good laugh).

Do you actually EVER contribute something worthwhile to a AMD/Intel thread? Or only if it shows Intel in a good light? No fannys please. Intel doesn't like you.

Anyways, it will be very interesting to see where the numbers are for the 4th quarter results.

Jason

I'm not here to cater to your expectations, so I'd suggest you live with it.

I would expect with the latest phenom news that AMD will be further pushed into the value segment.

Not what us AMD fans really want to say, but the fact is they are gaining marketshare in a place where they cant return to profitability, and Intel is looking to strike at the server market, which is their only bread and butter sector left.

Actually, their biggest marketshare gain was in the mobile sector, which is VERY profitable.
In the most profotable sector (servers), I expect them to gain significant share with Barcelona. Much of that is due to the fact that it's a drop-in replacement for the dual cores.

AMD said in their last CC that there is a decent chance they will break even in Q4...this may seem weak, but keep in mind that buying ATI has doubled the amount of revenue they need in order to break even each quarter.
All in all, they are doing pretty good.

That good ! The last thing I want is to be back to paying $500 for any CPU, and AMD has to be competative to keep prices down.

yeah, AMD needs to at least remain competitive enough to get us an octal-core nehalem in 08 for, um, how about...$266 :)
