I thought they were cutting prices on some current CPUs, discontinuing a few others and release the e8600 and q9650 sometime during Q3. What happened? I know it is only one day into Q4 but I have not heard anything else on this matter. Anyone have any links on updated info on this subject?

How are we on Q4 of 2008 during the year's 7th month?
Q = Quarter... = 3 months..

Q1 = January - March
Q2 = April - June
Q3 = July - September
Q4 = October - December

We're one day into Q3, not Q4.. Although really, it just means they have up until August 31st to decide to drop the prices, delays notwithstanding.

July 22nd-25th -ish is the traditional date for the price drops.
Wait.
And learn the calendar.

look at you crack addicts.

LOL

give it some time. The retailers are not going to short end themselves starting from day 1.

Remember the quads they have in inventory they paid full price for. There not getting the cheaper chips until they cleaned out there inventory, or they needed to restock.

It's called a fiscal year and it does not start at the beginning of the calendar year.

1st Quarter: October 1, 2007 ? December 31, 2007
2nd Quarter: January 1, 2008 ? March 31, 2008
3rd Quarter: April 1, 2008 ? June 30, 2008
4th Quarter: July 1, 2008 ? September 30, 2008

Does Intel list these things using the fiscal calendar, or the standard calendar though?
I always thought it was the standard calendar..

A fiscal year can end on any month you choose, true many corporations have a fiscal year ending Sept 30 but you can also have a fiscal year ending June 30.

But the point is tech company roadmaps and pricing are based on a calender year.

July 23, 2006: Core 2 Duo launch, Pentium price cuts
January 21, 2007: Core 2 Quad launch
April 22, 2007: Major Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad Cuts
July 22, 2007: Major Core 2 Duo, Core 2 Quad Cuts

CALENDAR Q3 2008: Price cuts coming.
We already have the FY Q3 price cuts on April 21st, so your OP is wrong anyway. They came and went.
Now we are waiting for calendar Q3 cuts which will likely come around the 20th of July.

Since nobody at all has mentioned it yet, I'll point out that it goes by calendar year.
