Q: With all these "open-source" programs & applications out there...

...will the average consumer use them in the future or do you see "open-source" programs & applications as something for the "geek" [ Term used for lack of a better word 😱 ] crowd?
 
if they continue to improve, linux and open office may very well challenge windows/MS office. for now, both are limited to "geeks"
 
You should know this by now. The PC term for geek is "Computer enthusiast"

And OS software itself will never become mainstream, but it's code will (and has already) worked it's way into many products.

I disagree w/ that, for an "office-suite" Apple still has very close ties w/ MS.
 
They don't really have the $$$ to advertise and get the word out, so it has to spread by word of mouth for the most part to the average Joes.
 
Pretty sure it will be geek online as long as they dont have the money to advertise and reach the general public.

i've used apple works, can't say i'm a big fan of it
