[Q] Why does explorer "reset" itself (win2k/winxp)

I've noticed something weird in Win2000 and WinXP. Every so often, explorer seems to "reset" itself. Generally this manifests as "losing" the active desktop background, taskbar, and system tray and then reloading it. It's almost as if explorer crashed and it had to reload.

Any idea what causes this?

i've noticed this also on my winXP box...but I thought it was the result of my stupidity and doing things i don't need to.

like running an apache http server on it when it's not even connected in any way to the internet

but i don't know what causes it....i would like to know also :?
