i would do weights first.... so you have plenty of energy to lift.

maybe a 5 minute warmup would be good.

when you're done just use the rest of your energy to finish up with cardio.

I do a 10-15 minute cardio warmup then the weights then a 30-45 minute cardio workout afterwards (great for getting the blood pumping and getting the lactic acid out of your muscles).

That one actually makes sense...get the blood pumping 1st, which helps doing weights, then another cardio finish. I like it!

Nohr, my dog weighs only 15 pounds, but I'm sure my neighbour wouldn't mind my borrowing his 85lb dog :D

weightlifters wanting to lose flab usually do weights first, then cardio, in order to minimize the strength lost via weight loss.

at my gym, the dedicated cardio people do it the reverse: 50 minutes of treadmill followed by 15 of weights.

so, just choose your category.

Thats probably the best way to do it. It's really not good to do both in the same day though, but if your trynna gain some mass, than do like 5 minutes warm up with cardio, than do some weights, than some cardio after, but I don't think it's good to do it right after.

I did a quick 5 minute cardio warmup followed by weights, then 5 minutes of 5lb hoolahoops(gut tucked in), followed by cardio cooldown stretches. I feel great. If I can't feel the pain, then I don't feel alive!

I do one day aerobic, next day anaerobic. Six days. Rest on seventh. Lost 35 pounds so far, getting real cut again. Once I reach my goal then maintenance kicks in 3 or 4 days a week only, again different muscle groups each day concentrating mostly on aerobic with light weights thrown in at high reps for definition. Eating correctly, lots of water during the work out and most important is the breathing while lifting properly. I can't tell how many people I see working out that don't know how to breath correctly during lifts.

i alternate cardio and lifting days...

on lifting days i lift first, then about 5 minutes of speed jump roping, boxer shuffle is what i've heard it called...basically how you see boxers jump rope...

cardio days i'll run between 3-5 miles and then more jump roping...

Well being a girl, it's probably a little different, different goals. I want to trim down and just be toned with a little bit of cut, not any major mass. So what I do is warm up for 5 mins. on the step machine. Then I do a set with weights (whichever body parts I'm doing that day) inbetween each set I either do jumping jacks or step(run) up and down on a platform for 2 mins.rest 30sec. and do my next set. Then at the end of my workout I do cardio for 45 mins.

This works for me but only because I want to lose fat. If your just at a point where you want to gain mass and don't really have fat problem...then just do 20 mins. of cardio to maintain.

Note: The first 10 mins of cardio excersise is burning off carbohydrates anything after that is burning fat!

Hope this is helpful!:)

what if your carbo consumption is low, does it still take 10 minutes or use other reserves for energy? like what?

Weights, then 30 min run. Ideally I'd do 5 min cardio before the weights to warm up but then that just never happens does it? This order is ideal because after doing weights I'm not particularly drained, so I can do a normal cardio workout, but after cardio I'm very drained and doing weights after that not only compromises my weights severely but also means I have to go around the weight room sweating like a pig getting everything wet. Plus by then I smell like a pig as well, so I just want to go home.

I didnt read all the posts within this thread but heres my two cents. I personally would do the cardio first to get the blood pumping and then do the weights. They definitely should both be done however. It all depends on whether or not you want to be big or...just toned. There are ways to tone without getting huge, which is what I think most people go for.

I usually do weights first, then cardio. I never have as much energy to lift after I've been running. So I left and then run.
