Howdy all,

Win98se
celeron 600
96mb ram
mb - onboard video, onboard sound, plug in modem card - not pci but pin style, usb lan adapter

1. modem disconnects without completing connection to dialup isp. Tried different isp - no go, deleted modem , shutdown, startup, redetected modem, ok in hardware diagnostic - still no connection.

Tried a different modem - same behavior, tried a lan card - not able to connect Checked diagnostics in hardware devices - ok.
Seems I get different readings for modem irq if I check it under modem properties - 3 and then in the hardware devices listing - 9.
Looked in the bios for a setting to change - none found. Looked in windows in the pci bus listing and noticed that device is listed as working properly - but under irq steering:

Settings there are
use irq steering. - checked
get irq table using ACPI BIOS - checked
get irq table using MS Specification table - checked
get irq table from protected mode PCBIOS 2.1 Call - UNchecked
get irq table from real mode PCIBIOS 2.1 call - checked

IRQ Routing Status

IRQ steering Disabled - message
IRQ Table has some errors. - message

Okay, So what do I do now?

Any help appreciated,

Check in the bios and disable serial ports or make sure they are on auto.

Shouldnt make a diff but you never know.

CrispyFried,

Thanks

Tried both auto and disabled - rebooted - detected pci bus -old modem still does not work - never dials out
installed lan card - was detected upon reboot after bios change - works with cable modem
installed pci 56k modem - works ok 44k connection speed
still have irq table error message.
should I leave well enough alone?
