If you put a CD/RW disc in A CD/R will you be able to use the CD/RW again? My friend has an old CD/R and his friend gave him a CD/RW disc and he was wondering if he burned something on this CD/RW in his CD/R.......... will he be able to use the CD/RW again? On freind said it should be ok but another said it would be ruined. Anyone have any idea? Thanks.

I'm not even sure if a CD-R drive will recognize the media..but if it does, it will burn it as a regular cd-r disc

This is a good question. I would bet that the "ruined" answer is the right one. I would bet that the laser would have far too much energy for the CD to be erased and rewritten later. Whatever was written would probably end up being permanent.

But I don't know.

I vote for "trying" it. The CDRW disks just aren't that expensive . . . let us know if it works (or not). ;)

Your CD-R burner won't be able to burn the CDRW disk.

But it also cannot change it either. A CDRW disk will always stay rewriteable.

The drive should reject the disc, and not even attempt to record on it.

Even if it does manage to burn the disc, while it certainly won't be readable, I think it is unlikely to ruin the disc, as CD-RW needs a higher power laser than CD-R.

not sure if I understand this correctly but you can burn a cdrw as a cdr & then erase & rewrite it.
I do it all the time with my burner with no problems reading the disks so produced!

Yeah but are you doing it on a CD-R or a CD-RW burner?
