What's the best/easiest way to find out if you're a victim of identity theft?

Um... get credit reports from the 3 bureaus, look for any accounts you haven't opened... check bank/ credit card statements for fradulent transactions... that's a start.

When you see charges for hookers in Tailand on your credit cards and start receiving collections calls for things you didn't buy... you'll know.

My parents have gotten calls from their credit card company whenever they've purchased something that they wouldn't normally buy, to verify that they bought it and someone else wasn't using their credit card number. Also, they got a call from a credit card company once verifying that they wanted a credit card from them. It turned out that someone had gotten one of their SS#'s and was trying to open a credit card in their name.

Funny, I just got second place out of 8 high schools in NJ's "Consumer Bowl," where they test on questions like this. The best way is to check your credit reports (from the 3 majors), as well as look over your account statements from your bank/credit card.
