Weed stop.

I just put some down this weekend. I can't stand digging weeds, so I hope it at least partially works. I sprayed the heck out of the ground before I put it down just to be sure. Then I piled on the mulch.

Think about it before you put that cursed made by the devil stuff down. Because once you do you may regret it.

Can't till your soil, makes planting extremely laborsome, doesn't stop weeds, etc.

I put some down on a large landcsaping area. I was so happy to get rid of it, and it took a few weekends to get it all out.

Why would you put something like that in an area where you'd want to till your soil and/or plant things? You put it down when you never want something to grow there.

Well I thought it was a brilliant idea for a lush landscaping/flower garden. Not so brilliant an idea.

Layers of mulch is better for the ground and will keep the weeds down.

As the mulch breaksdown, put on another layer.

As a side benefit, the mulch may be more athestic.

Weed Stop in the ACE Hardware store I work at

It really is pretty bad if you're gonna put it in a garden
If it's for a garden, they make a bio-degradable kind that degrades in a season
In theory, and I don't know how well it works...

I know that the Aubochon and ACE stores have it
I don't know about Home Depot or Lowes

However, if you never want anything to grow in a place again, it's a good method
There are chemicals (**all natural** supposedly) that will prevent it for a year
You have to go out and spray or shake yearly (or every 6 months depending on where you live)
Check on local laws though... Some chemicals are illegal for use now (as I found out at work today)

Good luck

If you can leave it for 2 or 3 years, newspapers work great - they keep weeds from regerminating. For 1 year, get the fabric crap. Plan on removing it entirely after 1 or 2 seasons. If you've got a really weedy area, it makes life easier by eliminating them for a year. Of course, put mulch over the fabric. A year down the road, you can remove the fabric and put in more plants and a fresh layer of mulch.
