Q for you car buffs. Recommended=regular unleaded, any benefits for using premium unleaded?

With my car I have to use premium, but with yours id use regular. I dont really know what you would expect with a 4 cyl auto.

edit: retarded typo

most newer cars are tuned for regular, you dont need premium unless you have an old rundown engine, or just want performance from a racer...

It's based on compression, higher octaine only dictates the Flash Point of the fuel. If you have 10:1 or higher compression you should go with premium.

Wether it's a Manual or an Auto is totally moot. I have an Auto with about 13.5:1 compression if I run 85 octaine (Regular Unleaded @ high altitude) I risk Pinging and Detonation.

used to be that premium came with better detergents and things, but now all the grades do, so get the minimum recommended.
