I've always wondered.......... why are all the gas stations in Oregon full service only??? I asked a gas attendant before and he said that it was a law too protect jobs? Anyone know if this is the reason?

Cheers,

There is a law in Oregon preventing people who are not employees of the pumping facility to operate fuel pumping mechanisms.

Ya, most stations are just mini-serve, in that they pump your gas, and nothing more. Very few stations are full serve(check oil, wash windows, ect).

It was originally based on the assumption that people were too stupid to pump their own gas without blowing something up. I asked the same question when I was living there.

Basically the're using safety regulations to protect jobs, its the same in Japan, Korea, Taiwan, & the European Union where they also use safety reulations to limit imports.

Oh well, it's still good living. Gas is still some of the cheapest in the west, and you never have to get out of your car(which is a good thing, as the winter is pretty miserable).:)
