Q: Are active US military, reserve included, allowed to carry firearms when not in uniform?

isn't everyone allowed to carry firearms?

Speaking as as a civilian, I can't legally, w/ out a carry permit here in NY Joemonkey.

You should be able to pick up a license at any convenience store. They're really easy to get up there in NY.... 😀

I don't think so, but I believe it makes it easier to get a permit in the 11 or so states with restrictive concealed carry laws (NJ and NY included). In NJ you pretty much have no shot at a concealed carry permit unless you're a former cop or have a darn good reason to have one, not sure about military.

I don't get your NJ rules. Do you have a pass crime?

MI was the same way until lately. Until now you had to be a cop, former cop or knew someone who was a cop to hav a CCW. Now they have to prove you are not worthy of having one.

if you have the required state license yes.. you are just a private citizen when you leave the base.. you must comply with all local laws...

without license no...

Shouldn't anyone be able to carry a weapon if it's not concealed?

Thats how it is here in Oregon.

YMMV

Really?
Here in the midwest usually the state law allows you to carry openly, but most cities have laws that forbid (or at least restrict) it IIRC.

Carrying openly is a real good way to cause problems. Heck even concealed makes people nervous if they notice it (esp if hugging).
