Q: About how a banned member "keeps" creating "new" accounts here...

So If Ntar = SomeDude22 = Hi = numerous other banned AT usernames, how does one keep creating new accounts here? 😕
 
If the guy doesn't have a static ip and the mods don't want to ban a specific ip range that he could be on, the user can just keep creating accounts with different email addresses...

Yeah, it kind of sucks but it's very hard to ban an ip range when other AnandTech members might be on that range and whatnot...

AOL was banned at one point because of the trolls (all AOL ip's) but I believe they lifted that ban...

there were a couple of times it was lifted, i forget what the record was for the shortest one, but it was ridiculously low, like a couple hours or something.

Nope, still in effect. You can't even use the AOL software over a non-AOL connection (pointless, I know) to even log into the forums.

He got his first ban under the name of RadeonGuy, I tried to look at the thread that resulted in his banning but it was since moved/deleted.

I have a series of PM's with him where he admits to being Hi and quite a few other names.

I normally wouldn't do this, but since his connection to Hi is out now and his quality of posts seem to have gone down quite a bit recently I feel it is appropriate.

You would think he would get the picture after the first 6 bannings.

IMO he is a troll, unfortunately it seems that there is nothing that can be done considering he is on his 7th username now. 🙁

That was actually due to the complete lack or cooperation with AT in handling a particular troll, more than the troll himself.

If the Mods really wanted to get rid of him they could. They could contact his ISP and say "We're having problems with this user of yours. Here's his IP addresses, etc. Go get 'im." Either his ISP will pull an AOL and say "Sorry, we don't give a damn." and they can ban the IP range or the ISP will send him a warning and cancel his account if he persists.

I'm sure they have other options too. I looks like this guy is just a dipstick instead of a troll (ie, steals money from people troll) so they may not care enough to really go after him. It may just be easier to keep banning him.

tech being a general term meaning anyone working in a call center where abuse@whatever typically ends up.

If they don't have their lawyer send it, it's trash. I doubt the ISP would care.
