Q about external hard drive (Buffalo vs seagate)

I'm looking around for an external hard drive and today at the store, I saw 2 that interested me. One was a seagate 500GB, USB 3.0, and the other was a Buffalo 1TB, USB 3.0. The funny thing was that both of them were marked at the same price.

I went online and tried to see if I can compare, but couldn't find anything that told me one was better than the other. However, I read on a site that says Buffalo does not actually make hard drive. They use their competitors had drive, but use their own software and case.

Is that true? So my question is this: between seagate and buffalo, which one would you pick, and why? both are the same price, but seagate is half the size. Instead of quality, would seagate be a better choice? Also, if it was true that buffalo uses their competitors drives, which companies do they use? Is it a quality brand, or some knock offs?

P.S:
Here is a seagate vs buffalo. In terms of specs, is there a reason that you can get twice the size, for only a bit more?

Cost wise, these days, you can get a 1TB Seagate for about the same cost as a 500GB one... just look around.

I have 2 Seagates in use, personally, and I got a 1TB Seagate for my mom's computer for Christmas. Both of mine are USB3.0 500GBs... but one is a 5400rpm unit, one is a 7200rpm unit (both 2.5" form.) They both have been solid drives, although the oldest one, with over 12000 hours, is starting to show some bad sectors... but it hasn't had an easy life, either.

The new model (the one I bought for my mom, ) is the new form (squared-off enclosure) and seems like a decent drive... it's a 5400rpm drive.

Personally, I wipe the drives of any proprietary software because I just want the bare drive; but the Seagate backup software works pretty well if that's what you are looking for.

I don't have any experience with Buffalo. Chances are they use whoever's drives they can get cheapest at any given time... so it may be a grab bag.

I essentially agree with Charlie98. Your links sjow the Seagate as a Mac drive. Neither link shows the warranty. That would be a consideration for me. All other things being equal, I would go with the best warranty.
