I need to decide on a case fast, and am always coming back to this one because of it's low price, and good expandiblity. The only thing I really question is the use of drive rails. *sigh* I had a case with rails before, and the drives were always a little loose, and could be moved a little out of place by opening/closing the trays. And my CDROM rattled. :(

Does this case also give you the option to screw down the 5.25 drives? Or do the rails lock the back part of the drives too, so they don't rattle? Could the drive cage be modded to accept drives without rails?

Ummm...i think the whole cage for the drives is a little too big for you to use it without the rails and you would have to drill holes...BUT just to let you know...my drives never rattle and nor do they fall out or shake. They're pretty stable...the only thing i'm worried about is the rail is made out of plastic...but hey it works great so no complaints from here.

they don't lock down, but they weren't loose for me. no rattling or anything. they go along the sides of the drive, where you normally screw the cage in.

The SX1030 only comes with one set of rails right? Where can you purchase more? I looked at directron, but they don't seem to have any for the Antecs.

My SX830 came with 3 sets of rails mounted in the bottom of the case. The rails work well, and I don't have any rattle or looseness. I have a DVD, Tape Drive, and CD-RW in my 3 bays....

The drive rails are of very good quality. I have built 3 sx1030s and have ordered a sx1040. Ihey stay attached to the bottom of the case when not in use. They lock down and do not vibrate. On my computer I have a cd, dvd, cdrw, and a livedrive mounted and they are all secure. This is a good solid case. I have 2 inwin q500n cases and they are good cases but the antec is head and shoulders above the inwins. I just happen to like the doors on the sx1030's and 40's. HTH

SX1030/1040 should come with 4 sets of rails (8 rails total) so that you have enough for each of the 5.25" drive bays. Otherwise give Customer Service a call (provided it really is the Antec version) and we can get you set up. If for some reason you've lost them contacting Customer Service will also allow you to buy them (a set of 2 runs about $5-10).
