Building a rig on a budget.

Barton 2500+
nForce2 + 512MB

I am trying to keep the Video card under $250 and I've found a 970PRO for $238. I am just worried about how it is clocked.
325/620.

Is that a bit low? Compared to the newer 9800NP it looks like a decent choice.
I assume it will blow away a 9600PRO clocked at 400/600.

Isnt that a bit expensive for a 9700 Pro?

You can find one for $200 at the forums... i might end up selling mine soon... i dunno yet. But yeah its a nice card... if you can find a 9800np for cheaper... thats a good buy too... and yes it will blow away a 9600p... i have that too....

Its The Default core and memory speeds of the card ....its normal and yes it is allot better then a 9600 Pro
You may also wanna look at a Geforce FX5900 for $180US or a 9800np for $199 ive seen them around. Both would make for great cards and be better then the 9700 Pro

This card is new so that's why it's $238.
With some great help from General Hardware and the CPU forum I've been able to sqeeze in a 9700PRO instead of a 9600PRO and still keep the rig at $800.

Looked at some reviews and I've almost decided to get this card. Looks like it's on par with a 9800NP for slightly less money.

$238 is about the going price for a new 9700Pro these days so I don't think you're getting ripped off. It's a great card with plenty of life in it. By default, it's actually slightly faster than a 9800np.

Why Crucial dude?? :D

LOL! WTF!

He asked why crucial becasue Crucial is basically dog crap for Nforce 2 mobos (at least their was a HUGE issue swith their pc2700 awhile ago).
You could have gotten 512 of twinmos/winbond or the like pc3200 512 for about $80 which will BLOW the doors off of Crucial (my twinmos is running at 210FSB)

He already asked in all my other threads, kind of a joke.
It's PC3200 so it should be fine.

the price seems a tad high, but an excellent video card...

same clock speeds as my Sapphire 9700 pro.
