Hello everyone:

I just bought PX845PEV Pro motherboard, but no matter what I did, Windows Me just won't install USB2 driver, but USB 1.1 seems OK. Can anyone confirm that USB 2.0 is not support by either INTEL or Microsoft under Windows Me? Thanks!!!

Following is the email threads I e-mailed to Albatron.

Hi Eric,

To my knowledge, I think Windows ME is based on Windows 9x platform, so I
suspect that Windows ME will not support the USB 2.0 controller. In
addition, it is the Intel license issue about the USB 2.0 driver, sorry that
I don't have any information about it. However, I think Intel might release
the driver in the future soon. Please let me know if you have more
questions, we will do our best to assist you. Thank you very much.

Dear Roger:

Thanks for the info.

It seems that Microsoft support update for USB 2.0 on Windows XP and 2000.
But in my perception, that doesn't mean that 3rd party vendor can't provide
a USB 2.0 driver and support it in Windows Me.

What I want to know is whether INTEL supports 845PE chipset's USB 2.0 in
Windows Me or not? My own NEC USB 2.0 card comes with driver that installed
fine in this PX845PEV Pro motherboard and Windows Me.

Thank you.

Eric

As far as I know there is no built in support for USB2.0 in WinME...its MS that you can blame for that one. But I think that it is mostly because the USB2.0 standard didnt come out until after WinME was released. WinXP has built in support for it but the USB2.0 standard came out a few months (I think) before Xp was released.

I even tried USB 2.0 driver for INTEL 845PE motherboard, and seems still doesn't work in Windows Me. However, my NEC USB 2.0 card works fine under Windows Me. Looks like MICROSOFT is waiting for INTEL, and INTEL is wating for MICROSOFT. How sad, and that's the way they force customer to upgrade to newest OS.
