?? Will I be able to burn dual layer discs through a future firmware update?

AFAIK I can't, but a friend of mine told me that I can. Well?

The answer to your question is I don't know...
It may or may not be able to do dual layer through a firmware update...

but you have to keep in mind will they release the update...
the answer to that is invariably NO.
plextor needs to make money and they can't do that if they allow older burners to just update to the latest and greatest tech...

does this mean that any current single-layered drive has the potential to become dual-layered with a simple firmware update? just wait till greenpeace gets a hold of this info. 🙂

There was an article somewhere that said in one of the computer shows they were demoing a dual layer burn on an existing drive with beta firmware. Thus, at least SOME of the current burners could do it with firmware, and the Benq says right on the ad that it can be upgraded. My guess would be that you would have to buy the firmware (which is fair) for the burners that do support it in hardware today.

Yes I have completely forgotten that. I've heard the case of BenQ, since it's the first company that will give such an option.
I hope Plextor will follow this policy, and I'm willing to pay the for the firmware update if that would be possible.
It's fair for them, fair enough for me
