In Dallas, Texas, a man switched on the web cam for Mathew Street Liverpool, hoping to see pictures of the well known Beatles quarter; he was amazed to see the Blacks outdoor sports store being burgled. Stunned, he saw a ladder against the wall.

This high principled American then watched as they smashed the window for entry. He immediately contacted Liverpool?s local police, and thanks to this considerate man, the local plod nicked the robbers as they attempted to make good their escape.

Insp Damian Walsh, of Merseyside police, said: "We were amazed when we were informed the person who reported the offence lived in the USA. This is now proof of how important it is to have cameras for our own safety and protection."

Repeat after me: anecdotal evidence, in general, isn't.
