Believe that describes a completely separate incident, as the complete thought reads:

"The Scream" was stolen 10 years ago, from Oslo's National Art Museum, and recovered three months later after the perpetrators failed to extract ransom for its return.

They're famous, and probably worth a pretty penny. Some insane art collector that thinks these things are better kept for private eyes instead of open to the world would love to get his hands on one of these.

I hate that crap. These things have no value if people can't see them. Think of all the art lost between thieves and war. Think of all the art that has been lost and replaced by forgeries, stuff half of us has probably gone to museams to see, stuff that 99% of the population will never know is a forgery. It's disgusting.

No, there are people out there that will be actively trying to buy these paintings. Like Thomas Crown, for instance.

Because there are no unscrupulous rich people, right? People make livings off of finding buyers for unique items.

I'm not a big art person, but The Scream is one of my personal favorite pieces of art. Bastids.

I'm sure there are some great books on the history of famous paintings that never emerged to the public eye and whatnot...stuff getting stolen, copied, burned, lost...

As for this situation...you would think that they'd have a little planning in place incase another theft was attempted.

LOL and it didn't look like it was that sophisicated either. They just went in, ripped it from the wall, and walked out.

Two different paintings. Munch painted multiple versions of "The Scream". The one stolen 10 years ago was a different version that the one stolen recently.

Pretty common with art theft. I believe the Mona Lisa has been cut out of the frame many times.

I never understood the point of stealing such famous art. Say you were a billionaire and could afford to hire thieves to steal the Mona Lisa for you. What would you do with it after you had it? Would you display it at your home? Everytime someone comes over, from your kid's prom date to the UPS delivery guy, they'll see it. One day someone will talk and you'll be sent away for a long time.

The other alternative is to hide it in a secret room or basement. Then what would you do? You couldn't tell anyone about it. You'd have to sneak downstairs, rub your hands and give off a sinister laugh. Lame.
