Actually it sounds like he turned the key in gear. Sounds weird that the starter motor would be that powerful.

You've gotta have the clutch in to start a manual.

He started it and dumped the clutch, then proceeded to panic.

I never use the clutch when starting, just make sure it's not in gear and it's fine.

Do you guys leave manuals in gear when you turn off the engine?

You either have a really old car or the switch has malfunctioned.

Back on topic here.....does it not look like he continued to accelerate into the garage....or rather through it? Clearly there was a little more than start it up and dump the clutch, chances are it would stall without throttle.
