this is the DUMBEST thing i've ever seen ... this whole thing was originally used to encode emails from being scanned for "key words" ... now its used by a bunch of script kiddies and wanna-be's who want to look cool ... why do people insist on acting like morons all the time????

That's how "3l337 h4x0r" speak started in order to fool key work scanners on bullitin boards too.

Example: I can't say f-word correctly spelled on anandtech, but nothing filters F |_| ( K. Get it?

"pwned" was an actual programming typo in some video game a long time ago. instead of displaying the message "you got owned" it said "you got pwned". Therefore "pwned" is the official mis-spelling, not p\/\/n3d or any other l337 variation thereof. Not too sure why it caught on though.

Sort of like teh. That used to just be an innocent typo, now it's just dumb.

Why do some people spell "own" with a "p", so its "pwn"?

Is that some way to be 12yr old geeky cool or something?

That seems to rank up there with people who SpElL lIkE tHiS. oohhh, impressive... :disgust:

I always thought people said it because it was a common typo which became commonplace because it was funny. But then someone who plays CS told me that when you "pwn" someone you "pistol owned" them. Hence "pwn". Anyways.. I like my version better.
