No. Generally self-controlled fans either have a local (fixed in place on the fan) or remote (on a pair of wires so you can locate it where you want) NTC (negative thermal coefficient - resistance drops as temp goes up - thermistor that regulates the fan's speed depending on the temp of the thermistor. PWM fans have a 4-pin connector and require the mobo to have a matching fan connector for the CPU. The fan is then regulated by the temp of a mobo sensor or on-chip sensor.
My mobo directions say to disable the chassis fan speed control feature (in the bios) if a self-controlled fan is attached to any controlled chassis fan header. If I connect a pwm fan to the cpu fan header, do I need to disable anything in the bios?
