PVR - Video Out/In

The whole "use your computer as a tv thing" is appealing to me. But all of the media center PCs seem to be out of my pricerange. Do all of these TV-like features come from the video card? What other hardware would I need to buy to be able to use my computer as a tv? About how much would it cost / what parts would I need, to be able to watch/record TV with this computer...

If you know of any links that would help me learn on my own, I would appreciate those just as much.

Thanks,
Smoolean.

Please, please, please, please, PLEASE use the search feature. Your questions are very basic and very general, and would be better answered by you doing some research. AVSForum also has an entire forum dedicated to PVRs.

Basically, to get the video into the computer, you need a video capture card, either standalone or integrated into a video card. To get it out onto the TV, you need a video card with video-out (which is most of them these days).

go check out htpcnews.com
their forums and reviews are usually pretty good and can help you out. matthias99, get a life. if he didn't know they answer why not let him ask. is your life that busy that you don't have the time to answer easy questions, or that bad because you have nothing better to do than berate someone who doesn't posess as much computer knowledge as you?
