is there a way to make a ''tivo'' like pvr? i know the AIW (ati) i can record but i cant set it to auto record (ex: every friday nights pr0n) i must manualy record.

Is there a way ???

I use a Hauppauge WinPVR with my old DirecTV receiver. It doesn't work as slick as the DirecTIVO but I can schedule and record stuff directly to my hard drive from DirecTV with that setup.

What do you mean? I can schedule recordings with my ATi TV Wonder and the software that came with it.

Problem is he needs to control the digital satellite box to change the channel, which he would do as was suggested above with a IR-blaster.

Get a Hauppauge PVR-250 card, then get either SageTV or BeyondTV, and an IR Blaster like the USB-IRT. the sage tv site (www.sage.tv) sells a hardware bundle so you can buy it all in one place. I've been using it for a month and works great. I like it a lot better than my dish 501 dvr and almost never use it anymore. The only problem is, it results in you recording massive amounts of tv shows. Seems like all I do is watch tv now and I have 2 days 13 hours of recorded shows still to catch up on. Just can't keep up.

My satellite box has a way to program the box to change to different channels at different times. As I said it is pretty old, I think I got it in 1997. I kind of assumed they all had some kind of ability to do this. I set the PVR card to record at certain times and program the satellite box to be on the station I want to record from at those times.

Get Snapstream, a tv card and a IR Blaster and you are golden. Snapstream owns.

Beyond TV is great, I love being able to check out what's on tv from work for the next couple of weeks and then from snapstream.net tell it to tell my machine to record it.
