PVA Monitor vs. HDTV

So, I've been using an old Samsung SyncMaster 220WM for about 3 years or so, and I've been looking to upgrade. What happened is we finally got a 37" LG HDTV for the house, and I was floored by the color vibrance and clarity. So I'm thinking of upgrading the monitor as well, but I am not sure what would be a better choice, that would have similar color, vibrance, and clarity?

A refurb Dell Ultrasharp 2408WFP, or any one of the Samsung 24-27" HDTVs out there. What makes the LG HDTV (37LD450) in my house so much more colorful than my 220WM?

Thanks!

Consumer HDTVs tend to have terrible out of the box color accuracy. Without knowing if you properly calibrated that LG set that "vibrancy" you speak of is more than likely pumped up reds and greens that color temp wise are way off the mark. Same for contrast.

The LG is probably running in Vivid mode which may look bright & colorful but its actually very inaccurate. LG manuals (at least newer ones) actually mention vivid mode being used in a retail store environment to maximize sharpness / color / contrast.

In reality its also shortening the lifespan of the TV.

Didnt some LG 37" sets ship with IPS panels?

Edit: a google search shows that some of the 37LD450's did have S-IPS panels.
