I just purchased a replaceemnt monitor: A Samsung CRT 17" model 700DF from Sam's Club.

I cannot find any information regarding this monitor on Sansung's website. It is not even listed.

When I tried installing the drivers from the CD I could not read the CD -- it came up with an error message so I manually installed the drivers.

My problem is that whenever I try to play a game (such as Nascar) I get the "Sync out of range" message.

It appears that I can only use 800 x 600 screen resolution. Even though the monitor supports 1024 x 768 I cannot get Windows to accept anything greater than 800 x 600.

System Specs:

Abit KG7
AMD 1600 XP
Gainward GF2 TI450
512 RAM

Is there a way to get this monitor to work properly or should I just get something else (better)?

If I should get something better what should I get.

Thanks

What refresh rate are you running at?

Even most older 17" monitors can handle 1024x768 at a refresh rate of 85. Make sure you're not running a refresh rate that isn't too high for the monitor's specs.

That could be my problem. I only have two options on refresh rates 100 or 120. Both are too high.

Sounds like that's the problem. I'm thinking you'll need to get yourself the correct drivers for that monitor.

Right-click on your desktop, select Properties, and select the Settings tab. What monitor does it say is running off of your video card?

As long as the monitor is connected via the typical DB15 cable, and you haven't previously forced other monitor settings, Windows should be able to auto-detect the monitor's resolution and refresh rate. If you can't find an inf file, just read your instruction booklet and enter your monitor's highest resolution and refresh rate in the appropriate dislpay driver window. Or try using Reforce or nVidia's advanced driver options to manually enter refresh rates per the monitor's manual.
