Hi guys,
As I am about to get a new portable laptop, I started looking here and there, just to realize soon that there is no such a thing as an 'ideal laptop ,it intended as a miniature of a fully operational at-all-weather conditions' 17" centrino-duo laptop'!
Having in mind that I spotted the lenovoIBM X31 .Fantastic structure, work horse, IBM behinf but...
When there is a but, they say, look into what comes after it!
So , XP prof ,which is not sold by Windows any more!My cd roms run with SP2 ,but I checked on the anandtech test that X31 comes with SP1.If the cd roms dont run with SP2 I will have a machine unable to use!Any advice? What shall I look for , just someone who have the XP sp2 version ?Will it work on the X31?I presume it will .Does anybody know if the cd roms with SP2 work with SP1 as well?Desperately looking for advice
Best,

What?

XP is XP. Any machine running XP will run SP1 or 2 or 3 just fine. In fact, you should be running SP3 just because of all the security fixes that have been applied.

You'll be updated to SP2 or SP3 when you go to the Windows Update site. It sounds like you intend to do a clean installation. That's good because you won't have a lot of data to back up before you start.

I suggest going to Lenovo's site and downloading the latest BIOS, drivers and patches for your machine before you start. You can load them on a flash drive and move them to your new installation in one quick move.

I'd recommend a good registry cleaner like Registry Mechanic, which is the same as Norton Utilities. I prefer using Registry Mechanic because, unlike Norton, it isnt' hard to get live help if you need it. Run it after you first get through the basic installation and after each major group of downloads.
